May 21, 2020

Dear fellow residents,
Conditions related to COVID-19 appear to be improving.  Working together, we are into our third week with the number of residents that have tested positive remaining at 28.  I thank you for co-operation with our requests to keep Harrington Park a safer and healthier environment. Please know this is still not the time to give up on our struggle with this terrible virus.  I ask you to continue following the basic recommendations of wearing a face covering when outside your home, keep practicing social distancing and avoid large groups of people.  It is important that our young children understand the importance of these recommendations.  I have seen large groups of children riding bikes together without face masks or distance between them.  Let’s keep our children safe and healthy.  We have to work together to keep our number of positive cases at the current level.
You may already know the following, but be advised:
o    The leaders of the HP Swim Club have decided to keep the pool closed this year.
o    The Memorial Day Parade has been cancelled by Commander Simpson of the HP American Legion. Please spend some time explaining the importance of the Memorial Day Holiday with your children.
o    Based on a conference call with County Executive Tedesco yesterday, our tennis courts will be open at 8am, Friday, May 22 for Single playing ONLY.
o    Our parks are still limited to passive use only, such as walking, jogging and bike riding on the paved and lawn areas. Sports playing, playgrounds, tables and benches are still off limits.
o    If you haven’t paid your real estate taxes, they are due May 31, 2020.  If not paid, the interest accrued goes back to May 1, 2020.
o    Vegetation collection this Monday, May 25 will be moved to Tuesday, the 26th for the observance of Memorial Day.
In Harrington Park, we have zero tolerance for the use of racial slurs. While we still do not know who did it, someone used chalk to write a racial slur on a paved area in town.  The disparaging remark has been removed.  Based on the location of the slur, it most likely was the work of one of our younger residents.  Please explain to family members the reasons this practice is unacceptable. Thank you for your help.
Our grade school and regional high school in Old Tappan remain closed for the remainder of the academic year.  During a very difficult time, our teachers have provided a very valuable service.  Related to education, the residents of Harrington Park congratulate all of our graduates.  Whether its grade school, high school or college/university, we wish everyone success in your future.
I extend my best wishes to all for an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.  Please stay well and keep yourself and your family safe.    Paul A. Hoelscher
