The Health Department oversees a wide range of services from wellness programs for pre-school children and senior citizens, to inspecting businesses for sanitation and food handling, to issuing cat licenses, and managing rodent control for the Borough.
The Board of Health is an autonomous board which consist of citizen members who meet several times a year to review the health department activities.
The Board Members of the Harrington Park Board of Health consist of volunteers: seven Members plus two Alternate Members. The Members and Alternate Member(s) are appointed by the Mayor, and approved by the Borough’s elected Council, in accordance with Chapter 8 of the Borough Code. Each Member of the Board serves a three-year term beginning on the 1st day of January of the year appointed. Any unexpired vacancy is filled for the remainder of the prior member’s term. Alternate Members are appointed annually for a one-year term.
The Board of Health meets at Borough Hall on the 1st Monday of the month (generally) five times a year: January, March, June, September, November.
The Board monitors the activities of the part-time Sanitarian Inspector who inspects all businesses that handle food, and investigates any health related compliants. The Board makes suggestions to Mayor and Council relating to such things as Smoke Free Zone, Cannabis ~ No Selling Enterprise Zone.

Dog and Cat Rabies Vaccination Clinic
The Borough of Harrington Park requires all dogs and cats to be licensed upon reaching the age of six-months-old. To facilitate vaccination the Borough host an annual Rabies Inoculation Clinic, free to all Bergen County residents, once a year in November, on a Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00am. The clinic offers a 3-year rabies vaccine, administered by a veterinarian, at the Harrington Park Department of Public Works Garage.
Adult Flu Vaccination Clinic
The Borough of Harrington Park host a Flu Vaccination Clinic once a year on the 2nd Wednesday of September at borough hall from 9:30 am until noon. Adults must bring proof of health insurance coverage for payment to the pharmacy to administer the flu vaccine.
Baby Keep Well Program
Also known as the Child Health Conference (CHC). The Harrington Park Board of Health has a contractual arrangement with the Hillsdale Board of Health to provide Child Health Conference services. The CHC provides physical examinations, required immunizations, growth development testing, and health evaluation services. The program is open to Harrington Park residents with children from birth to 5-years-old who meet New Jersey State guidelines for financial means. It is only for Well-Visits. Sick children must see their pediatrician. For more information about CHC, or to make an appointment, please call 201-666-4800 ext. 1528. The CHC is held at the Borough of Hillsdale, located at 380 Hillsdale Avenue, lower level. Services are provided by a pediatrician and public health nurse.
Adults Wellness Program for Senior Citizens
Also known as the Adult Health Conference (AHC). Senior citizens can take advantage of a free health consultation program administered by Bergen County’s Public Health Nurse. Services include a health history evaluation, blood pressure measurement, height and weight measurement, individualized counseling and education, referral, follow-up, and consultation with a public health nurse. The AHC takes place at the Harrington Park Community Church during meetings of Club 60.
